Our research interests focus on the theory of condensed matter at low temperatures. The central goal is to explain microscopic properties on the basis of the atomistic and electronic structure and to relate them to observable quantities.
We study quantum many-particle effects which may lead to novel (ground) states with unusual and often unexpected physical properties. Important examples are metals with strongly correlated electrons. A further important topic is the theory of superconductivity and of superconducting materials.
The close cooperation with experimental groups requires a realistic i.e. material-specific treatment of the phenomena under consideration. To meet this challenge we engage in the development of new concepts for the description oc electronic correlations in combination with appropriare numerical procedures.
